Coercive control is a form abuse where one person uses abusive behaviours to control or dominate their partner.

Some abusive tactics used by coercive controllers may include:

  • Gaslighting

  • Threats and intimidation

  • Silent treatment

  • Rage

  • Monitoring you and your home

  • Critcism and insults

  • Isolating from family and friends

  • Controlling what you do, where you go, who you can see

  • Humiliation and dehumanizing

  • Depriving you

  • Punishments

  • Control of finances

Coercive control can be overt - telling you what you can do, speaking for you, forcing you to do something

Coercive control can be covert - gaslighting, passive aggressive, silent treatment
